CONGRATULATIONS to Beverly Woodward, RN, MSN, who is Research Projects Manager for both the Tennessee Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Clinical Sciences Core, and for Vanderbilt’s Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally (ACTG) Clinical Research Site. Beverly was presented the award by Dr. Jennifer Pietenpol (at right in photo), Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Executive Vice-President for Research, during a luncheon at the Aertson Hotel on Friday, April 24, 2026. She was nominated for the award by Drs. April Pettit and David Haas (at left in photo). The award honors the memory of Vivien Thomas, a pioneering African American surgical technician who developed groundbreaking cardiac techniques at Vanderbilt during the 1930s, despite lacking a medical degree.
