Biography

Amna Osman, CEO of Nashville CARES, brings 26 years of experience as a public health innovator and executive leader. Her career encompasses roles in nonprofits, government, international organizations, consulting, and academia, reflecting a rich diversity of experience. She holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Michigan and is currently pursuing a PhD in Leadership and Change at Antioch University. Additionally, Amna is a graduate of the Michigan State University Advanced Leadership Program and holds a Leading Change diploma from Macomb’s Executive School of Business in Texas. Amna collaborates extensively with academic researchers on community-based research projects focusing on HIV, trauma-informed care, and health disparities. She serves as a Co-Principal Investigator on the Community-Based Participatory Research project, Mobilizing Optimum, Safe, and Trauma-informed (MOST) HIV, through the University of Michigan’s Detroit Urban Research Center. Her work includes partnerships with Vanderbilt and Harvard Medical School on projects assessing the clinical, economic, and social impacts of Tennessee’s rejection of CDC funding for HIV prevention, specifically through the Multimethod Assessment of the Clinical, Economic & Social Impact of the Rejection of Federal HIV Prevention Funds in Tennessee and Projecting the Potential Clinical and Economic Impact of HIV Prevention Resource Reallocation in Tennessee. She is a mentor for the Implementation Science Coordination Initiative, TN CFAR Hub aiming to enhance community-academic partnerships. Her interests include community-based participatory research and fostering robust community and academic collaboration to support people living with HIV and those at risk, with a focus on ethnic and racial minorities. She serves as an advisory member on the Advisory Council to End the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Nashville, an executive member of AIDS United, a board member on the Tennessee Sexual Orientation Business Council, and an HIV subject expert for the Meharry Community Engagement Core. Amna is a member of the Executive Committee for the Tennessee CFAR.
